Our Values & What We Believe

Every decision we make, every program we create,

and every policy we set is grounded in our four core values.

Lived Experience

We highly value listening to, learning from and shaping programming around feedback from those with lived experience in child welfare.

Community

It’s all about relationships. We value the transformative impact of connection and prioritize social support as essential for the well-being of children and families.

Being Resourceful

We are committed to being mindful and diligent with our gifts and resources, and we are inspired to find quick and creative ways to help families overcome challenges and unusual problems.

Balance in Child Welfare

We value the rights of everyone involved in child welfare, and we support a balanced, common sense approach to outcomes for families that prioritizes long term healing for children.

What We Believe

  • We believe children are meant to be raised in families, not systems, and that all children deserve safe and stable caregivers and parents. Therefore, we must support families and teach parents and caregivers how to advocate for children in their care.
  • We believe that children deserve healing and families need hope. Therefore, everyone has a responsibility to be a source of healing for families and children.
  • We believe that county social workers are overworked and underpaid. Therefore, we must partner with the counties to sufficiently equip caregivers and parents.
  • We believe that everyone working in child welfare must be healing-centered and collaborative.  Therefore, everyone involved with families in child welfare must be well-trained.
  • We believe that resource parents (foster and kinship caregivers) and first parents (biological parents) can work together for the good of the child. Therefore, we must encourage practices that effectively facilitate collaboration.
  • We believe that the number one protective factor in the life of a child is a caring, attuned adult.  Therefore, quality parenting initiatives must be valued and funded.
